Getting into the Spirit

I spoke to someone recently who told me they just weren't in the Christmas spirit. They are a very old friend, so I could remind them they said that every year.

They didn't ask my advice so I didn't tell them there are some ways to "catch" the Spirit of the holidays.

1) Forgive the past. We can sometimes fall victim to "Christmas Past," and memories of disappointments come marching in.

2) Care for yourself. Now's the time to eat well, get out and exercise, and rent a movie you didn't see in the theater.

3) Make others happy. Perhaps the most powerful tools for overcoming the holiday blues is to give to others. There are so many people in need this year that the fields are ripe with opportunities to love and care for others.

I feel better now. I gave my advice. Maybe my friend will read it.

Happy Holidays!

RE: Getting into the Spirit

I am touched by your posting.

I also gained an insight about your comment "they didn't ask my advice so I didn't tell them". For me I realized that if I withold from sharing with others I am denying them the opportunity to gain their own insights from my experiences and perspecitives. I don't see it as giving advice, rather opening my heart and expressing myself fully.

I invite you to contact your old friend and share your posting with them. As you said so beautifully, "the fields are ripe with opportunities to love and care for others". I too have not had the Christmas spirit year after year but your words made a difference to me and I believe the opportunity exists for them to make a difference for your "old friend" too.

Thanks for the wonderful gift of sharing you!

Getting Into the Spirit

"They didn't ask my advice" Now there's a whole talk in itself!!! Don't they know that I have so much to share with them? I find myself too often still the little boy in the back of the classroom raising his hand almost jumping up and down saying "Pick Me Pick me!!!" How much of that is just my insecurity trying to show off. It takes real self knowledge for me to bless others where they are and not try to show them how "evolved" I am! Thank you for sharing Kathianne! Blessings, John Brower
